Digital technology for healthcare:
secure, resilient, Italian
Multi-site connectivity for distributed healthcare facilities, Italian private cloud for mission-critical clinical systems, managed cybersecurity for the protection of health data and data centres in Italy for hospitals, clinics and diagnostic laboratories.
The healthcare sector requires infrastructure that guarantees continuity, security and control of data.
For public hospitals, private clinics and diagnostic laboratories, digital infrastructure is today an essential element of clinical operations. HIS systems, RIS/PACS platforms, electronic health records, telemedicine services and the Electronic Health Record 2.0 (FSE 2.0) require highly reliable networks, stable processing capacity and continuous data protection.
The digital transformation of Italian healthcare is accelerating, supported by PNRR investments, by the evolution of the FSE 2.0 and by the need to modernise legacy systems and distributed infrastructure. In this scenario, operational resilience, cybersecurity and data sovereignty become strategic requirements.
Retelit supports healthcare organisations with an integrated and entirely Italian infrastructure platform: 47,000 km of proprietary fibre optic, 38 data centres across the national territory, VMware-based private cloud, managed cybersecurity with an in-house SOC and dedicated connectivity services for multi-site environments.
A single technology partner for network, cloud, security and data centre, able to support healthcare facilities in the evolution of their digital services, keeping data under Italian and European jurisdiction.

Requirements
The requirements of hospitals, clinics and diagnostic laboratories.
Operational continuity of clinical systems, protection of patient data and stable connectivity between multi-site facilities: the three infrastructure priorities of the healthcare sector, in a context of growing regulatory pressure and rapidly escalating cyber attacks.
Redundant connectivity between hospital sites, outpatient clinics and laboratories
Healthcare organisations operate on distributed topologies: hub hospitals, local facilities, outpatient clinics, rehabilitation centres and analysis laboratories. Each node must interoperate reliably with the central information systems (HIS) and with the regional platforms of the Electronic Health Record 2.0. Dedicated fibre with redundant paths, intelligent management of clinical traffic via SD-WAN and always-on backup lines form the infrastructure foundation that guarantees continuity of service to patients.
Multi-site healthcare connectivity
Protection of clinical data and cyber risk management
The healthcare sector is today among the most exposed to cyber risk. The protection of reports, diagnostic images, medical histories and health data requires continuous supervision, able to prevent, detect and handle cyber incidents quickly. The NIS2 Directive introduces more stringent requirements on governance, risk management and incident notification for hospitals, clinics and diagnostic laboratories. Clinical data must be protected throughout its entire lifecycle through managed MDR, EDR, firewall and vulnerability analysis services.
Healthcare cybersecurity & NIS2
Cloud and business continuity for critical clinical systems
Hospital information systems (HIS), RIS/PACS platforms for diagnostic imaging and telemedicine applications do not tolerate interruptions: a downtime of the booking system or of access to the medical record translates into direct care delays. The Italian private cloud, with managed backup, Disaster Recovery with measurable RPO/RTO and direct connection to the regional platforms, is the infrastructure response for organisations that cannot sustain operational downtime.

Health data sovereignty
Patient data stays in Italy.
The management of health data requires full control over location, access and applicable jurisdiction. GDPR, NIS2 and AgID/ACN requirements for the cloud of the healthcare Public Administration impose high standards of traceability, security and governance. Retelit’s infrastructure operates entirely in Italy, guaranteeing data residency within the national territory, access traceability, logical segregation of environments, operational continuity with enterprise standards and no dependence on non-EU providers. An infrastructure model designed to support hospitals, clinics and facilities of the National Health Service (SSN) in the secure management of health data.
Solutions
The Retelit solutions for the Healthcare sector.
Six infrastructure pillars for digital health: dedicated connectivity between clinical sites, Italian private cloud for critical hospital systems, managed cybersecurity for the protection of clinical data, data centres in Italy for the housing of healthcare IT infrastructure, unified communication for hospitals and telemedicine and a contact center for the management of the booking centre (CUP) and the relationship with the patient. A single Italian operator, with a proprietary network, certified data centres and an in-house SOC.
We connect hub hospitals, local facilities, outpatient clinics and laboratories with dedicated fibre connectivity, on our proprietary network of 47,000 km. Managed SD-WAN technology gives priority to critical clinical flows such as HIS, electronic record and RIS/PACS imaging and, in the event of a failure, moves traffic to the backup line without interruptions. Redundant paths and contractual SLAs guarantee continuity towards the regional platforms of the Electronic Health Record.
Cloud & Business Continuity
With the VCloud private cloud on VMware technology, hosted in our data centres in Italy, facilities securely run HIS systems, RIS/PACS imaging, laboratory systems and telemedicine. Managed backup and Disaster Recovery with contractually defined RPO/RTO protect the continuity of clinical services. Hybrid architectures keep sensitive health data under Italian jurisdiction, in line with the AgID qualification requirements for the National Health Service (SSN).
Managed cybersecurity
The MDR service, delivered by Retelit’s continuously active in-house SOC, monitors healthcare IT environments and responds to incidents before they become service outages. Protection operates on multiple levels, from the endpoint to the managed firewall, from email security to AntiDDoS, up to periodic vulnerability analysis. The Virtual CISO supports hospitals, clinics and laboratories in risk governance and in the obligations laid down by the NIS2 Directive.
Data Center & Housing
The Housing and Dedicated Colo services host the IT infrastructure of hospitals and clinics in our data centres in Italy, with redundant power, controlled cooling, access control and continuous monitoring. The centres are carrier-neutral and interconnected with each other, with direct links to the main Italian Internet Exchanges. A single point of contact for space, power, connectivity and security, while maintaining full visibility over where patient data resides.
Voice & Unified Communication
With Cloud PBX we combine switchboard and unified communication in a single cloud platform, with no on-site hardware: numbering, multi-level IVR, queues, voicemail, messaging with presence and video conferencing, reachable from phone, PC and mobile devices. The platforms are Italian and AgID-certified. It is the foundation for the hospital switchboard, collaboration between departments and sites and support for telemedicine rooms, with extensions active wherever doctors and staff operate.
Customer Experience
The Retelit Contact Center, located in Italy and integrated with the facility’s information systems, manages CUP bookings, front line and patient assistance across multiple channels, from telephone to email, from WhatsApp to web and chatbot, with the support of artificial intelligence. Dedicated toll-free numbers, intelligent routing and multilingual operators reduce waiting times and ease the load on desks, with over fifteen years of experience at the service of healthcare.
Regulatory compliance
Compliance and standards for healthcare facilities
We operate within a certified perimeter, periodically verified by independent bodies. Our infrastructure and managed services are aligned with the main regulatory requirements of the healthcare sector, from the NIS2 Directive to the AgID qualification requirements for the cloud of the healthcare Public Administration, up to the international standards for the management of clinical data.
